HOW TO RECOVER MP3 PLAYER SUPRATECH JAZZCLASSIC 512M FM

Have you got a MP3 player model Supratech Classic Jazz? Have you installed the updated firmware that the company published in its site during most of the 2005?. Then you know for sure that your player has not only improved, but the screen has gone dead and the blue-LED is always on. More, if you have tried to recover it using different firmwares, probably it doesn't work any longer even as a plain USB storage device.

I know this story because it also happened to me. I have spent many hours trying to get it recovered, looking for help in forums, loading firmwares... so when I finally got it, I decided that it would be nice to publish how I did it. In a near future I will detail the whole process here fot several initial grades of damage in your player. At the moment you can surf the provided links about S1-Class MP3 Players, the need programs for flashing it (if they do not come in your CD or you have lost it) and of course, download the firmware.

IMPORTANT WARNINGS

If your player works fine, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE. You are not going to improve it and, in the other hand. you will face the risk of killing it. The firmware that you can download from this site IS NOT OFFICIAL. It is an adaptation of a chinese one that I found at Internet, but the only one capable of recover my player. I do not give any kind of guarantee and, if you install it it, will be under your unique responsibility. Think about it, specially if your model does not fit exactly the characteristics of mine.

If you decide anywat to update your firmware, make first a copy of your actual firm with the script EXTRACT.BAT that you can find at http://www.stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~uwa8/s1mp3/?Download . This copy will be not useful to recover your device unless you learn to "repair" it according to the instructions provided in that site. Nevertheless, when after updating the firmware in case of errors, the updater program automatically would have saved an exact copy of the previous version in C:\Program files\MP3 Player Utilities 3.06\RDiskUpdate\recover\$ACTSDK$.FW (the path can vary, based on the configuration of your PC). Keep a copy of this file in a safe place. If something goes wrong, you can also try the last version of the actualizador program.(END OF REVIEWED TEXT AS JANUARY THE 11TH).

I HAVE A SIMILAR MODEL: I CAN USE THIS FIRMWARE?

In principle the answer is no. I only can assure that it has worked with MY UNIT, although the certain thing is that there are many players S1 type that vary internally in very little; identical models are even commercialized in different countries under different commercial denominations. The data of mine are:

MODEL
: Supratech Classic Jazz 512M with radio FM (Commercialized in Spain)
SCREEN
: Monochrome 128x32, illumination with blue LED
CHIPS *
: ATJ2085p and memory Samsung 434
OTHERS
: Recording of voice and radio, 7 ways of eq. and telephone agenda

* These data normally can only be known disassembling the player, thing that I DO NOT RECOMMEND absolutely.

MY MODEL IS ANOTHER ONE: WHERE I CAN FIND A FIRMWARE SUITABLE?

The object of this page is the recovery of identical units to my model. If yours he is another one, only I can darte advice. Of course, first that you must do it is to verify if your salesman has available some update. If it is not thus and you are sure that you need firmware, looks for down in the connections of those of models that other users have raised. There are even archives compressed with tens of them. The problem is to know which corresponds yours, right?. There are very many players S1 type commercialized in a pile of countries under different denominations and appearances but with little internal differences. If you do not find the one of your model exactly, are tracks that can indicarte if it is possible that firmware works in yours or no. For it you will need the actualizador program and another S1Res call that you can unload here . Whatever more data you remember far better of your firmware original or of the last one that worked. With each candidate to prove, it verifies the following thing::

- So large and it names of the file. If they keep similarity with those from your model, is probable that it even works or that is the his own one. Preferable those of extension BIN before FW.

- candidate with the S1res program Opens to the file and watches the logotipos, animations, sources, etc. At the most similar they are to which you remember to have seen in your model, better.

- the actualizador program Opens and looks for in your hard disk firmware candidate, but you still do not press the button "Update". Before it watches the manufacturer and model to which he is destined. If they differ much of your model, most possible it is than although you can update it, your player it is unsuitable or it lets be recognized by Windows. In the tactical mission of my Supratech model, only some versions "Wilson 3.0.XX" worked. An attempt to load firmware of Unibit finished whereupon the player was not recognized by the S.O. and much work cost to me to recover it.

DATA ON THE FIRMWARE

It is an adaptation of one in Chinese, with file name BY-(chinese).bin, version Wilson 3,0,41 and who the player denominates (from the menu "To see version of Firmware") like 2004/10/25 v1.5_S320A1FC. I have modified the logotipos and animations in Chinese, the resistance of screen and language by defect (now he is English). In the table of the right you can see the logotipos of my adaptation. Number 13 only is the screen in target, whereas last the sample in inverse (totally black).

The three animations to choose are:

1ª: Beginning... (with line of progress points).

2ª: Two blinkings of the screen in target.

3ª: Two blinkings of 11 logo and their inverse one, the 12.

1ª goes with logotipo 1º very well; 3ª, with numbers 11 and 12; whereas 2ª animation is not thought to use with any logo in concrete. By defect, once updated firmware, the player will use first logotipo and animation.

ANIMATION 1 ANIMATION 2 ANIMATION 3

When you ignite the player after loading new firmware or change the battery, the message "Starting will remain during seconds showing...". It forms the logotipos, animations, language, etc. If the illumination seems to respond to the pulsations of the bellboys erratically, it proves to change the bottom color (already, really only there is one, but...).

ADVICE ON THE USE OF THE player

- If being connected to the PC beams click with the right button for "expelling" the player, he follows ignition during the time that you have determined in the menu of extinguished, but will not receive the power supply of the port USB if not that will spend the battery.

- you do not open it if it is not strictly necessary. If he is in guarantee will lose his validity and, in any case, it is extremely easy to damage some components (in special the connection to screen LCD). If you do not have another remedy that to do it (to force the recovery way), before infórmate well in the connections of down. Peculiarly you will not find warning some on one of the most important dangers when manipulating it: the static electricity, although yes comments as it can affect to the player during his normal use.

- the USA the bellboys of the player with smoothness, specially the one of encendido/apagado/reprodución/pausa. To exert too much pressure can damage contacts in the plate, besides to relax a next screw and/or to deform the plastic in which it fits, so that the screen and the button would sink.

- If flocks archives of the player using some Linux distributions in your PC, when trying to read it later in Windows could seem to be blocked for writing, without not even power to be formateado. You can avoid it if from Linux empty the wastebasket before disassembling (to disconnect) the player, or eliminating the archives without using the wastebasket directly.
