7. The Protests
- Hundreds of thousands of people gathered all over Galicia and in other major Spanish cities to protest at the government's handling of the Prestige oil tanker disaster, calling for the resignation of the Spanish prime minister, José María Aznar, and/or the head of the Galician regional government, Manuel Fraga.
- December 1st: 200,000 people in Santiago de Compostela.
- December 11th: 150,000 people in Vigo; 40,000 in Pontevedra; 15,000 in Santiago de Compostela; 15,000 in Ourense; 5,000 in A Coruña (Corunna).
- December 15th: 50,000 people in Barcelona.
- December 19th: 100,000 people in Madrid.
- So far no government minister, not even a second-rank official, has had the decency to resign. The prime minister himself has backed all his ministers.
