Welcome
to this class! Now that we are starting a new school year, we're going to need a little warming up. What better warming up than installing a Dual Boot System in our computers so we can use alternatively Windows and Linux? |
|||||||||||||||
Sounds
challenging? Well, it actually is!
Before getting that far though, let's start by installing
some useful
applications, in case they were not set up in your
computer
yet. Later on, you'll be asked to click on this link, Dual Boot, and read the directions for setting up a dual boot system. We'll go over them in class, and believe me, if you follow them carefully you'll be able to prepare your computer so it can run Two Different Operating Systems without crashing every time you turn it on! |

produce nice

Systems
And now, it's time to finally install Ubuntu GNOME to your computer. Click the link and follow all directions Very Carefully. Ubuntu GNOME is an Ubuntu flavor that uses the Gnome Shell. Regular Ubuntu comes by default with a different shell called Unity. Gnome Shell and Unity are just different user interfaces. The installation process is very similar for both of them. If you want to try out a dual boot installation without the possibility to harm your computer, there's VirtualBox. VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. It lets you create a Virtual Machine where you can install different operating system without actually affecting your physical computer. Follow the next link to see how to do this: Once you are done installing the dual boot system, it is recommended that you proceed with the next link in order to be able to make use of the files in your 'real' computer from the 'virtual' one. And finally, to have a perfectly tuned up system, the next links provide some useful tips. Check them out and see what you can do. This last link above applies to all Ubuntu flavors. The first two tweaks are Unity-specific, all other ones can be used with Ubuntu GNOME. Other assignments: Managing Users
